I carried this half of a one dollar Silver Certificate all the time I was in Korea. I vaguely remember splitting this bill with someone that was on the same boat I was as we landed in Japan. It seemed like a grand gesture at the time. Once we got off the boat we went in different directions and I never saw him again. I used it to record the serial number of the carbines I was issued; the first one a semi automatic which I exchanged for a fully automatic one when we hit the combat zone (the second serial number.) Remember the Silver Certificate? The Government promised to give you one dollar's worth of silver in exchange for the Silver Certificate. I think the Silver Certificate is now only a collectors item. |
