John G. Beechler

John Beechler was an FO with the 39th Field Artillery and had served on Outpost Harry. During the month of April, 1953, Oupost Harry was attacked by forces similar to the occurrence in June.  John's related experience parallels Sam Buck's.

During the attack the Chinese were able to penetrate the trenches and it was necessary to call in friendly fire to resist the attack.  during the attack John personally held off attacking CCF with the use of his carbine.  He was badly wounded in both legs and lost one eye.  He was awarded the Silver Star for his actions.
