This is an email sent to Martin Markley in response to his request for information about James B. Motherway.
Thank you for your note. Here's the information you requested regarding my brother, James Bernard Motherway.
His full name is James Bernard Motherway. His i.d. was RA 37713103. He was attached to Company B, 5th Infantry Regiment, 5th Regimental Combat Team.
I have the original letter sent to my mother, Catherine Motherway, from Albert D. Bull (Capt.) Chaplain USA, HQ 5th Regimental Combat Team, Office of the Chaplain, APO 52 c/o Postmaster, San Francisco, in which he stated, "He was due to rotate the following day, yet he volunteered to lead his men in a hazardous defense of the Outpost. He knew full well the great dangers that were involved, but he knew his presence would be a great help to the younger and less experienced men of the company."
That sounds typical of my brother,"Jim." He was the fourth youngest of eleven children in our family. He was born and raised and finally brought home to be buried in Hibbing, Minnesota.
Speaking on behalf of his four remaining siblings, we are most appreciative of any recognition of his gallantry and dedication to the men under his charge.
