Backside of OP Harry viewed over U.S. MLR from OP Howe with callouts |

This shot, with call outs, was taken as part of a panorama in late winter of '53 from OP Howe. DIVARTY ordered these. We would send up a photographer and assistant to make the required shots. 4x5 Graphic mounted on a tripod, carefully leveled. Using a 12" fl lens and a red filter to suppess haze we would make a series of overlapping shots. When processed and printed to 8x10 someone in DIVARTY would paste them together. I was told that they were mounted on boards, covered with a sheet of acetate so that notations could be made directly on that surface with a grease pencil. Coordinates and battery firing information was added so it was a ready reference to any FO assigned to the Observation Post. Unfortunately I only saved one print of the panoramic series. Where the rest of the negatives are today is anybody's guess. |
